MAINSTONE

At Mainstone Community Centre we have set up a weekly coffee afternoon on Thursdays 1.30pm -4.00pm.for over 50s, we run coach trips, theatre trips, help charities in any way we can, our last project was to knit 200 twiddle muffs for dementia sufferers which we sent to Derriford hospital.

We helped “knit for peace” by knitting hats and scarves which were sent to Syria.

We will help with any ideas people come up with.

We hold a Monday morning “healthy activities” hour 11.00am-12noon. This session is FREE. And there is tea and coffee and a chance to make new friends and have a chat.

We love to see people forming new friendships and taking part in activities they would never have thought about , while keeping their bodies and minds active.

At this weeks “Healthy Activities” we played Curling, very enjoyable and there are all sorts of aids available for each persons ability.

We meet from 19.30hrs – 21.00hrs.on the second Tuesday of the month in the Church of the Holy Spirit on Clittaford Road.
We generally have a speaker and have had some excellent talks on a variety of subjects.
Twice a year, in January and July, we go out for lunch instead of having an evening meeting and once a year we have a Bring and Buy. Although we are not a ‘church’ group as such we do have carols with sherry and mince pies at our December meeting.
We pay £2 for annual membership and £1 at each meeting and that covers the refreshments of tea/coffee and a biscuit.
Nearly all our members are retired ladies who live locally and who enjoy getting together once a month and we would welcome new members but they don’t have to be as old as 50, just adults!
If anyone is interested come along one evening and see whether you enjoy it. If you want to join, make yourself known to one of the committee – anyone will point us out.

I can be contacted on 778096 if anyone wants to know more.  Leave me an answerphone message with your telephone number if I am not at home.
